Experiences change the whole way you view the world.
I had a traumatic brain injury in 1994 and was told I may never make a full recovery. As I battled to find a way through, I thought it was all about recovery. In reality, it completely redefined the way I looked at the world. I literally saw things differently because my brain had altered. I had to learn from scratch. In time I began to see opportunity in everything and everyone, because therein lay hope.
In effect, I broke free from my own box. I had reduced myself to a box so small that it was unsustainable. And it exploded in that moment when I hit the water out windsurfing in 1994.
At the absolute lowest of the low, when I stumbled out of the neuro psychiatrist’s office with my life stripped bare, the only thing I had was this thing deep inside that knew it would be alright – knew that whatever anyone said, whatever they were feeling, diagnosing or predicting, I had a right to my life. And nothing could take it away bar my own permission. And that is the message Turning it on its Head is here to share.
That is how, when people say they cannot achieve something, I know there is a solution. And it’s usually simple. But not necessarily easy. When you tune in to your body and your soul, and learn to truly hear what they say, the answers always emerge.
